MEDIROM Healthcare Technologies Announces Major Milestone in Japan
TOKYO, Jan. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – MEDIROM Healthcare Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: MRM), headquartered in Minato-ku, Tokyo, has announced a significant achievement in its digital authentication efforts. As of December 28, 2025, the number of Proof of Human authentications using the World ID device, 'Orb', has surpassed 20,000 at its relaxation salon network, primarily through the "Re.Ra.Ku" brand operated by its subsidiary, MEDIROM Wellness Co.
Doubling of Authentications in Two Months
This milestone marks a substantial growth, having doubled the number of verifications from 10,000 cases reported on October 23, 2025. MEDIROM credits this rapid increase to its strategic alignment with the World Network, a Proof of Human authentication protocol co-founded by industry leaders Sam Altman and Alex Blania. The company aims to broaden access to innovative digital infrastructures through its extensive store network.
Expanding Access to New Social Infrastructure
Looking ahead, MEDIROM plans to expand the installation of Orbs to 200 salons nationwide, further enhancing public access to this next-generation authentication technology. This initiative is expected to foster a growing community that can easily engage in Proof of Human technology.
Event-Driven Growth and Community Engagement
The surge to exceed 20,000 authentications was largely propelled by the company’s recent 25th anniversary celebration, marked by the “5-Minute Shoulder Massage Campaign for 250,000 People.” Participants were offered complimentary shoulder massages while waiting to verify their identities at Re.Ra.Ku locations, generating notable interest and serving as a unique digital experience. MEDIROM views this connection between real-world interactions and technological adoption as key to their growing success.
About the World Network
The World Network is envisioned as the largest and most inclusive network of real humans, designed to provide Proof of Human, financial services, and social connectivity in the growing age of artificial intelligence. The initiative, co-founded by Altman, Max Novendstern, and Blania, aims to democratize access to essential services.
