IRVING, Texas, Aug. 26, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Commercial Metals Company (NYSE:CMC) ("CMC" or the "Company") today announced that it has received the Obelisk Award for Arts Education by the Business Council for the Arts (BCA). The Obelisk Awards honor businesses, individuals and nonprofits for their extraordinary support of arts and culture in North Texas.
For the past 46 years, CMC has hosted an annual contest and exhibit titled 'Scrap Can Be Beautiful' in partnership with Booker T. Washington School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas. Students from the school's 3D design and sculpture classes compete each year by designing sculptures made from metal scrap materials donated by CMC's local recycling yard.
"CMC is very proud to receive this special honor in recognition of our long-standing history of Scrap Can Be Beautiful," commented Peter R. Matt, President and Chief Executive Officer. "This competition not only provides a platform that combines the arts and education but also engages students in environmental sustainability through repurposing metal scrap materials into creative works of art. Sustainability has been the heart of CMC since our founding over 100 years ago."
"This year's Obelisk honorees exemplify the extraordinary impact business leaders have when they invest in the arts," said Oncor Senior Vice President and BCA Board Chair Joel Austin. "Their time, talent, and resources strengthen our cultural identity, fuel innovation, and make North Texas a destination for both business and creativity."
