Fourth quarter 2024 reported operating income decreased 1% including the impact of special gains and charges, which were a net charge primarily related to restructuring costs. Organic operating income increased 14%, as solid sales growth more than offset growth-oriented investments in the business. Reported other income in the fourth quarter of 2024 decreased $5 million due to higher pension costs. Reported net interest expense decreased $9 million reflecting lower interest expense due to lower interest rates. The reported income tax rate for the fourth quarter of 2024 was 10.3% compared with the reported rate of 23.6% in the fourth quarter of 2023. Excluding special gains and charges and discrete tax items, the adjusted tax rate for the fourth quarter of 2024 was 18.2% compared with the adjusted tax rate of 21.3% in the fourth quarter of 2023.
