Rocket Lab Achieves Milestone with 21st Launch in 2025
MAHIA, New Zealand, Dec. 21, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Rocket Lab Corporation (Nasdaq: RKLB), a prominent player in launch services and space systems, has accomplished a significant milestone by successfully launching its 21st Electron rocket of the year. This latest mission, known as ‘The Wisdom God Guides’, was executed from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand on December 21 at 7:36 p.m. (06:36 UTC). The purpose of this launch was to deploy the QPS-SAR-15 satellite for the Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, Inc. (iQPS), a Japanese Earth imaging company.
Details of the Launch
The QPS-SAR-15 satellite is designed to enhance iQPS's synthetic aperture radar (SAR) constellation, which provides near-real-time imagery across twelve different orbits for its global clientele. Rocket Lab originally started its collaboration with iQPS in 2023 and has successfully launched seven satellites for its growing constellation, establishing Electron as the primary launch vehicle for iQPS. Additional collaborations entail five more planned launches in 2026.
Record-Breaking Launch Performance
This mission has set a new annual launch record for the Electron rocket, culminating in a remarkable 21 launches within a single year, all achieving a 100% mission success rate. This achievement not only reaffirms Rocket Lab's status as America’s leading small launch provider but also underscores Electron's position as the world’s most frequently-launched small-lift orbital rocket.
Sir Peter Beck, founder and CEO of Rocket Lab, expressed his enthusiasm: "Congratulations to iQPS on this latest successful mission for their constellation, and to the Rocket Lab team on a fantastic record-setting year of Electron launches. Electron makes frequent and reliable launch look easy as it outpaces all other American small-lift orbital rockets, year after year."
Future Prospects for Rocket Lab
Looking ahead, Rocket Lab plans to expand Electron’s reach in 2026. Upcoming plans include:
- Additional multi-launch constellation deployments.
- Dedicated missions for domestic civil space agencies.
- International missions in Japan and Europe.
- Launches related to hypersonic technology and national security.
Beck noted that the new record of annual launches, coupled with the range of future missions, highlights the significant global impact that Electron continues to have on the space industry.
