The Great American Elderverse™ Launches Statewide in Texas
In a groundbreaking initiative, Mynd Immersive, in collaboration with the Consumer Technology Association (CTA) Foundation, Lyda Hill Philanthropies, AT&T, and Select Rehabilitation, has announced the statewide expansion of the Great American Elderverse™ in Texas. This program aims to provide immersive Virtual Reality (VR) experiences to senior living and skilled nursing communities, helping to combat loneliness, anxiety, and cognitive decline among older adults.
Transforming Aging through Technology
The Great American Elderverse™ seeks to enhance seniors' lives by offering clinically-informed VR experiences that promote joy, movement, and human connection. Chris Brickler, CEO and co-founder of Mynd Immersive, stated, "Lyda Hill represents the gold standard in science-driven philanthropy. We're honored to work alongside her to bring dignity, engagement, and digital care access to our exploding population of aging adults." The initiative's expansion coincides with Mynd Immersive's new global headquarters at 3000 Pegasus Park in Texas.
First Site: Umphress Terrace in Dallas
The first recipient of the Elderverse in Texas is Umphress Terrace, a Dallas-based senior living community. Angie McWhirter, Program Director at Umphress Terrace, expressed enthusiasm, stating, "Our residents are thrilled to travel the world, revisit childhood memories, and improve their mental and physical health — all from the safety of their chair."
Research Highlights Impact
A landmark study from Stanford University revealed that over 80% of older adults using Mynd Immersive reported improved mood, while more than 90% noted stronger relationships with caregivers. Additionally, a CMS-funded study involving 34 senior communities in Indiana found that 91% of seniors experienced reduced social isolation.
AT&T's Role in Enhancing Connections
According to Joe Drygas, President of AT&T Healthcare, "We believe that connecting changes everything, and by enabling immersive therapeutics with our secure, reliable 5G, we're helping older adults experience and engage with technology in a safe and comforting manner." AT&T's collaboration emphasizes the importance of using technology to foster deeper human connections for those in need.
Successful Beginnings and Future Plans
The Great American Elderverse™ initially launched in 60 low-income senior communities across the NY/NJ/CT tri-state area in 2024. Participating senior care communities are equipped with lightweight VR headsets, AI-assisted care tools, and access to a growing library of therapeutic content. This content includes immersive travel experiences and therapeutic interventions designed specifically for older adults, covering aspects such as physical and cognitive therapies in conjunction with Select Rehabilitation.
